Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of talking therapy
with a strong emphasis on problem solving and practicality.
It is one of the most effective form of psychotherapy for emotional,
behavioural and psychological problems, especially anxiety based problems.
The term CBT generally refers to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
and/or Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), two separate models
with different emphasises. Both model works on the principle that unhealthy
emotions and behaviours are the results of our cognitive (thought) processes.
The Greek philosopher Epictetus once said:
"We are disturbed not by events, but by the views which we take of them"
REBT/CBT helps a client in a relatively short period to unravel, identify
and change these processes to develop a long lasting, healthier philosophy of
living.
