What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is one of the most interesting
and effective technique in the emerging field of Energy
Psychotherapy or Energy Therapy. Developed by Gary Craig,
a Standford engineer, EFT is the continued evolution of
an earlier technique dicovered by clinical psychologist
Dr Roger Callahan.
Dr Callahan realised that by tapping certain meridian accupuncture
points and bringing the problem thoughts into play, he could
facilitate desired changes in a patient's emotions, thought
and behaviour.
How Does EFT Work?
It is still unclear as to how or why energy therapy work,
just that it has shown to be more than 80% effective in
providing relief and complete cessation of problems (far
more than that usually attributed to the 'placebo'
effect). At the core of energy therapy is the understanding
that
"The cause of all negative emotions
is a disruption in the body's energy system"
This disruption leads to physical and/or psychological symptoms.
One belief is that by stimulating
accupuncture points in the presence of the negative thoughts,
electrochemical impulses are sent to the brain
which changes the way the brain processes the original emotional responses. This alteration
of brain structure based on its activity is known as neural plasticity and
explains the flexible rewiring nature of the brain.
